Organization Endowment

The CHOICES of Manistee County Endowment Fund was created to support an organization that has provided help and support to victims of domestic violence for over 20 years CHOICES of Manistee County, Inc.

Since 1985, CHOICES of Manistee County, Inc. has been the county's primary service organization for victims of domestic violence in Manistee County. About 850 Manistee County residents are served each year. More than 2,000 nights of emergency shelter are provided annually to women because of domestic violence, homelessness or both. By far, children are the majority of the population in the shelter.

CHOICES programs include:

  • Emergency shelter with a 12-16 bed capacity, staffed with trained personnel and open 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. The shelter is commonly at capacity.
  • A crisis phone line, also available on a 24 hour, 7 day per week basis
  • Support programs for victims who are not in the shelter from Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Counseling and case management
  • Support groups that meet weekly, involving those in and out of the shelter and dependent children
  • Children's services
  • Emergency transportation
  • Legal, personal, financial, housing and medical advocacy
  • Community awareness and education services 

CHOICES of Manistee, Inc. is the only domestic violence/homeless emergency shelter in Manistee County. Services are coordinated with organizations such as the Family Independence Agency; WIC Women, Infants, Children Services; Manistee County Health Department; Manistee/Benzie Community Mental Health; Manistee Salvation Army; FiveCap of Manistee County, Love INC., the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, and the United Way of Manistee County.
