Muskegon County Foundation

The Community Foundation for Muskegon County was established in 1961, when Muskegon born attorney Stephen Clink, a former county prosecutor and probate court judge fulfilled a dream for the city he loves. An early significant gift came in 1975 by A. Harold Frauenthal, founder of Kaydon Bearings, who left a $1.5 million beqest to the Foundation. In a move that was seen as pivotal and visionary the Foundation purchased the block of Western Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets including the historic Michigan Theater in 1976. Nearing its 50th anniversary in 2011, the Foundation has grown to over $112 million dollars in assets and manages over 935 funds.
